Real estate was one of the hardest hit sectors during the COVID19 pandemic. As both the health and economic situations worsened, online service delivery became essential for almost every business sector across the UAE. Buying, selling, and renting homes in Dubai became difficult with health & safety concerns top of the list.
Established market players like Bayut were already cashing in on their prominent real estate ecommerce platforms. In the post-pandemic economy, with a website already in their digital asset portfolio, the Horizon Homes team decided to go beyond a website with a high performance real estate app that would connect buyers, sellers, and landlords directly with them.
The company’s vision behind the app was to address the challenge of making real estate commerce even more transparent, simplified, and limited to a few taps. The app would aim to make residential property search easier, make appointments and home tours virtual, and document & contract management digital.
Horizon Homes were one of our earliest clients that approached Crownsoft to design the UI & UX of their new mobile app. In a three day ideation & product design sprint our project management and design experts consulted with Horizon Homes founders to determine the core needs, functionality, and features of the app.
The Crownsoft project management team determined that the app would be an extensive real estate platform inspired by the Horizon Homes website. The app would offer dedicated sections for property buyers, sellers, and rentals. In addition, we recommended an in-app chat feature with live video calling, and a virtual tour feature embedded into all property listings.
After the initial ideation consultancy and product design sprint, Crownsoft’s team had a clear idea of Horizon Home founders vision, the customer journey, competing apps, and an extensive SWOT analysis. After conducting extensive competitor research our team deployed the SMART framework to define a clear roadmap of what the app would look like and the functionality it would offer. The team also identified all the ideal technology stacks and integrations required for the app to function optimally.
Crownsoft’s design team collaborated with the project manager and Horizon Home created a strategic scope of the mobile application. Everything including the nature of the app, the target audience, crucial functionality & features, visual design, and specific preferences were considered. A sleek low fidelity design in black and white color palettes was created after the UI & UX wireframing stage to present the prototype to Horizon Home founders.
Crownsoft’s design team collaborated with the project manager and Horizon Home created a strategic scope of the mobile application. Everything including the nature of the app, the target audience, crucial functionality & features, visual design, and specific preferences were considered. Horizon Home recommended multiple changes and approved the UI & UX for a high fidelity design prototype. Adding the required user flow to the design, the Crownsoft design team upgraded the color palette matching it with the brand’s lavender theme, a bold typography class, and a minimalist UI as requested by the client. Integrations with Google Maps for location tagging, and SendBird for chat & live video were also featured in the high fidelity design giving it a realistic final product look.

Designing Horizon Homes from the ground up was an incredible learning experience for the Crownsoft team. Being one of our earliest projects the app design put our designers skills and experience to test, allowing us to fine tune several aspects of our app design & development process for the future.
Discovering the need, developing the scope of work for a new industry, conducting user research, developing a unique wireframe identified by competitor research and customer needs, and developing a personalized UI for the brand was an insightful experience.
The result was a visually alluring and high performance app UI & UX that was immediately approved by Horizon Homes founders. We feel honored to have been approached by the company to develop their inaugural app’s design.
